Sobre el tiempo en la Arquitectura

Querido Mies,

THE DAY LE CORBUSIER MEET MIGUEL ANGEL (by utzon)

About Time in Architecture

Dear Mies,

With the second Article we start a new series in which we would think over time in Architecture.

We miss university, where we could spend 4 months developing the idea for a project. Nowadays in the studio we must be able to achive that in 2 days.

Today´s lesson is by Le Corbusier and narrated by Jørn Utzon, both maestros understood the importance of time.

"Le Corbusier after visiting the Sistine Chapel walked with the company of italian architect Gio Ponti for hours in the scaffold due to the restauration of the Chapel. They were so close to Miguel Angel's frescos they could almost touch them. They walked in complete silence and when they left the Chapel, Gio Ponti was anxious to hear Le Corbusier´s opinion. So, he declared: "Give a man a brush and some colors, a true artist, let him work for 5 years and we would have a piece as important!"1

Looking forward to the next letter,

We, the architects.
